At the next Postitive Action Group event Paul Craine M.A, will give a presentation entitled "Predicting Population".
Paul Craine has a research degree on Population and Taxation in the Isle of Man as well as an MA in Education. He taught for 20 years and has worked in the Department of Education and Children as the Co-ordinating Adviser for Secondary Education. He is qualified secondary headteacher and a trained Ofsted Inspector.
Since retiring from full-time employment Paul has devoted his energy into researching various trends in IOM population statistics. In April this year he published, at his own cost, the IOM Population Atlas.
Paul Craine commented: "The Island has got used to population growth in the last 30 years, but there is clear evidence that it has been recent decline. We need a clear, well thought through population policy which looks at a wider aspect of factors. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to share and discuss my findings at a PAG public meeting."
A PAG spokesperson said: "The April 2016 Interim Census will not available until early next year. Government population projections since 2011 have forecast population growth from 84,500 to over 90,500 by 2021. The recently approved Strategic Plan identifies the need to provide 5,100 additional dwellings to provide for a population of 93,500 by 2026. Paul's findings provide strong evidence of population decline.
In the past 12 months much has been said about the ageing profile of the population and the effect it will have on the Manx economy. Both Government and the Chamber of Commerce, via an economic stimulation package, would like to attract 500 to 1000 persons in the working age group. That package must take into account various other factors which Paul will talk about.
We are indeed fortunate to have such a wealth of well researched information to share with the public just before the General Election in September.
To hear more everyone is welcome to attend this event and join in the discussion about an important political issue."
The meeting take place on Monday 23rd May 2016 at 7.30pm at the Manx Legion Club, Market Hill, Douglas.
All are welcome. Admission is free.
