Performers sought for Global Village

by isleofman.com 20th May 2016
Can you play an unusual instrument from another country? Do you know a national dance or can you sing a native folk song from somewhere else around the world?

The One World Centre is looking for musicians, dancers and singers to perform at its Global Village in the Arboretum at St Johns on Tynwald Day.

The Global Village celebrates Manx connections with the rest of the world, particularly through Manx charities who work overseas and global initiatives such as Fairtrade. It also includes food, music and dance from other cultures represented on our Island.

Previous years have featured music on the didgeridoo, African drumming and singing as well as Bollywood and Bulgarian folk dancing. One World Centre Director Rosemary Clarke says she would welcome other performers taking part:

“We know there are probably others on the Island who can play an instrument or sing a song from another culture and we would be delighted to welcome more performers this year. The Global Village is in a very informal setting so you don’t have to be concert standard to take part – just willing to share your knowledge and enjoyment with others.

“Any Manx charities who would like to showcase the work they do overseas or in the field of international development are also welcome to take a stall. With the music, song and dance – and the delicious food available from other parts of the world - the Global Village is a great family fun event and we are looking forward to seeing lots of people there again this 5th July.”

Anyone interested in performing or taking a stall at the Global Village should contact Rosemary on 800464 or by emailing info@owciom.org
