Island police liaise with UK counterparts

Schools across the Island are open as usual today following a bomb scare at a school in Onchan yesterday (24 May).

Pupils and staff were evacuated from Ashley Hill primary following a call to the emergency services control room.

Nothing suspicious was found on the school grounds following a lengthy search by the police, which saw a security cordon thrown around the area.

Officers say they believe the threat is linked to similar incidents in the UK where more than 30 schools have closed due to hoax calls.

The Isle of Man Constabulary will now work with police forces in the UK as they launch an investigation into the matter.

The public are being assured there is no specific danger to the Island.

Police say incidents of this nature can't be ignored and are urging any similar threats to be brought to the attention of the authorities immediately.
