Deadline approaching for feedback on fire regulations

by isleofman.com 26th May 2016
The deadline is approaching for feedback on proposals aimed at improving a key aspect of fire safety in the Isle of Man.

The Department of Home Affairs is inviting responses to its public consultation on the Fire Precautions (Houses in Multiple Occupation and Flats) Regulations 2016. The closing date for submissions is Monday 6 June 2016.

The intention is to update the existing flats regulations which were introduced in 1996, and put in place modern and appropriate fire prevention measures for flats and houses in multiple occupation.

Chris Thomas, Home Affairs Member responsible for the Isle of Man Fire & Rescue Service, said: “Helpful comments and suggestions have already been received, including at a briefing and discussion which 40 or so landlords, estate agents and surveyors attended. Engagement will help government get these important regulations right.”

The proposed regulations and associated appendices are available on the Government website at www.gov.im/dha/consultations.gov

Submissions can be made by emailing dhaconsultation@gov.im or in writing to Karl Cubbon, Legislation and Policy Officer, Department of Home Affairs, Tromode Road, Douglas, IM2 5PA.
