Governor costs 'not justified' - League

Celtic League criticises post

The Celtic League says spending hundreds of thousands of pounds a year having a Lieutenant Governor is simply wrong during lean times.

Last week, the latest man to hold the post – Sir Richard Gozney – was sworn in at a ceremony in Douglas.

Bernard Moffatt of the Celtic League says as a nationalist organisation, the League opposes the idea of having what it describes as a “relic of the colonial past”.

But he says as well as the ideological objections to having the post, he can’t see how the huge costs can be justified:
