by isleofman.com 2nd June 2016

Engine overheated three miles out from IoM

Douglas Lifeboat went to the aid of a yacht in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The vessel had left Widnes for the Isle of Man Wednesday morning, but was suffering from an overheating engine as it got to around three miles out from Douglas.

At 1.30am on Thursday the lifeboat was called out.

The yacht was found off Santon Head, with the volunteer crew of the lifeboat having had to use their VHF radio direction-finding equipment to locate it in the dark.

The yacht was towed to Douglas and berthed at the Kind Edward Pier where the yacht and its crew, tired but none the worse for their ordeal, were put into the care of Douglas Coastguard.

The lifeboat then returned to station where it was re-housed and made ready again for service just before 4.40am.
