Peel Castle Offers Magical Wedding Setting

by isleofman.com 7th June 2016
Manx National Heritage, the national heritage agency for the Isle of Man has added Peel Castle as an approved venue for weddings and civil ceremonies complementing those already held at Castle Rushen and Rushen Abbey in the south of the Island.

Situated on St Patrick’s Isle, the castle offers a romantic setting and is steeped in history dating back over seven thousand years. The Castle and St Patrick’s Isle’s previous uses have included a New Stone Age Settlement, Monastery and a Viking Fortification.

Peter Young, Venue Hire Manager for Manx National Heritage said:

“Peel Castle combines history and unique architecture with breathtaking views of Peel and the West Coast of the Isle of Man. The castle offers one of the finest wedding locations anywhere on the Island and offers a fairy-tale wedding venue for couples who dream of a romantic open-air castle wedding”.

The castle offers a dramatic setting overlooking Peel Bay and is ideal for open-air ceremonies, blessings and photographs. Two areas of the castle grounds have been approved for open air weddings: the Garrison Hall, a few metres south of the Round Tower, for up to 70 guests. The hall dates back to the 16th Century and was originally used by the garrison troops. The Bowling Green has been approved for up to 150 people. This flat outdoor area was used for target practice, first by bowmen and later by musketeers.

Peter continued:

“Every ceremony is tailored to your own needs and we can arrange for drinks and canapes to be served whilst you take some special photos for your album”.

Wet weather arrangements for up to 60 people seated are available in the St Patrick’s Isle Suite at the House of Manannan. The Suite offers stunning views of Peel Marina and the castle.

Peel Castle is one of several venues available for weddings and private hire within Manx National Heritage portfolio of historic properties. To find out more, request a brochure or visit www.manxnationalheritage.im/venue-hire or to make a booking, contact Peter Young at venuehire@mnh.gov.im.
