Consultation launched by government

Members of the public are being asked for their views on the future of social care services on the Island.

The Department of Health and Social Care has launched a consultation on proposals for the next five years.

Minister Howard Quayle says the whilst the Island's ageing population is a measure of its quality of life, it does pose challenges for the community.

The department started making changes to services for older people in 2012, including the creation of a Dementia Care Team and additional support to help people remain in their own homes and maximise their independence.

For those unable to live at home, the Department has strengthened residential provision with additional capacity in the south of the Island and the construction of a new elderly mentally infirm unit in Ramsey.

A document outlining commissioning intentions has been published as part of the consultation exercise, which sets out how the Department intends to provide, purchase and influence services for older people from 2016 to 2021.  It also identifies gaps current provision

Full details are available at gov.im/consultations and the closing date for submissions is the 18th July.
