Competitor dies in sidecar race

Ian Bell killed in incident at Ballaspur

TT organisers have confirmed a sidecar driver died during this afternoon's racing.

Fifty-eight-year-old Ian Bell - who was competing with passenger and son Carl - was killed after an incident at Ballaspur in the Sure Sidecar Race 2.

Ian, a motorcycle dealer from Bedlington, made his TT debut in 1995.

He won the newcomers trophy and achieved five podiums - the highlight being a race win in 2003.
