Bill Shimmins to stand for Middle

by isleofman.com 14th June 2016
Bill Shimmins has announced he is standing for election to the House of Keys in September, a decision he has reached as a result of his passion for the social and economic welfare of the island.

Bill is leaving Isle of Man Bank Limited in July, where he has served as Managing Director for the last five years. After a banking career spanning 34 years across the UK, Europe and Asia, Bill has a wealth of experience in international business.

Along with his wife, Alison, a teacher at Braddan Primary School, Bill has lived in Glen Vine for more than 13 years. Their children attended Marown Primary School and QE2 High School before moving away to study at university. Bill now serves as a Governor at Marown Primary School.

Bill feels strongly that he can make a positive contribution to addressing the challenges the island faces. He said: “The Isle of Man is an incredible place and we are very lucky to live here. I am passionate about the island. Like others, I am naturally concerned about the social and economic difficulties we face. I am determined to work for the island to ensure it continues to prosper as a community. In business, I take a decisive and responsive approach to overcome complex issues. I hope to be given the opportunity to use my skills, experience and commitment for the benefit of all.”
