Delegates open eyes to unique Mann

UNESCO reps continue visit

Delegates at a UNESCO meeting in Douglas will today (Saturday) see for themselves how the Isle of Man became the first jurisdiction in the world to be named a Biosphere Reserve (18 June).

The Island was granted the status three months ago, in recognition of combining an outstanding environment with a successful economy and vibrant community.

Representatives from UNESCO reserves around the British Isles gathered in the Manx capital for a mini summit yesterday.

They've discussed how the biosphere accolade can best be used to promote and enhance their areas.

Environment Minister Richard Ronan says the Island will make the most of its special status:
