Police confirm large quantity of drugs seized

On Friday 17th June 2016 officers from the Proactive Team, Dogs Unit and Customs & Excise stopped a number of vehicles disembarking the ferry from Liverpool. Police drugs detection dog indicated on one of the vehicles stopped and a 50 year old male from Liverpool was detained. The vehicle was searched and a substantial amount of the Class B controlled drug Cannabis was found, concealed within the vehicle. The drugs have an estimated street value of ?250,000, clearly this was a major importation of Cannabis.

Subsequently the male was charged in connection with serious drugs offences and will appear at Court today, Monday 20th June 2016.

Detective Sergeant Vinny Lund of The Proactive Team said, “I appreciate the last thing many people want after a long journey is to be stopped and spoken to by Police and Customs but it’s an important part of keeping the Island safe and detecting crime. I would like to thank those who were inconvenienced and the patience shown.”
