A Bug Hunt will take place on Saturday, 25th June at Ballachurry wetlands as part of celebrations taking place nationwide for National Insect Week which runs from 20-26 June 2016. Join Manx Wildlife Trust at an event that’s fun for the whole family. Together we’ll wander after a woodlouse, crawl after a caterpillar and flutter after a fly! Let’s take a peek at the mini beasts lurking under the leaves and in the grass at the Ballachurry Wetlands. Magnifiers and bug pots will be loaned out to aid total investigation! If it’s wet don’t forget to bring along your wellies!
Where: Ballachurry Wetlands, near Rushen Church, on A29, Rushen

Now in its seventh year and coordinated by the Royal Entomological Society, the week will see scores of events across the UK, from bug hunts and bumblebee safaris to insect photography courses and identification workshops.
National Insect Week is a biennial initiative to promote awareness of the importance of insects in the UK and around the world. It is supported by more than 60 national partner organisations concerned about natural history, biodiversity and entomology, the study of insects.
An interactive website
www.nationalinsectweek.co.uk gives visitors all the information they need to get involved and a place to learn more about the little things that run the world.
Royal Entomological Society Director of Outreach and Development, Luke Tilley said:
“Insects may be small, but they have a huge impact on the natural world. There are a wide range of activities offered during National Insect Week by local and national organisations which will enable children and adults alike to explore the wonderful world of insects for themselves.”For more information about the Bug Hunt contact our Biodiversity Education Officer at
