Eric Holmes, Unite Union's Regional Officer for the Isle of Man, is to give a talk entitled "The IOM - the next 5 Years" at the next PAG Public Meeting on Monday 27th June 2016 at 7.30 p.m
The meeting is being held at the Manx Legion Club. Market Hill, Douglas, is free to attend and open to all.
Unite is Britain and Ireland’s largest trade union with 1.5 million members working across all sectors of the economy.
It has the largest number of members (4500) of any trade union in the Isle of Man and represents 10% of the island’s working population.
Unite has members amongst public servants; in the NHS and across local government. It is well represented in the private sector in both engineering and finance.
Since January 2013 Eric Holmes has been the full-time Regional Officer.
When appointed he stated "Unite will be fighting to see that the pay and employment conditions of its members, and, more generally, public services in the Isle of Man are vigorously defended" and more recently "I do fear the next 5 years"
A spokesperson for PAG said: "This is the first time we have had a Union Leader talk at one of our public meetings. With a General Election in September it is important to hear what the priorities are going to be for Unite in the next 5 years and how different the island would be if Unite is given the opportunity to significantly influence the next government’s policies. Before the meeting on the 27th the result of the EU referendum will be known and the possible effect that may ultimately have on policy. These are interesting and unnerving times. It is important that the Manx public engages in the build up to the General Election. Everyone is welcome to attend, whether a PAG member or not."
