New Manx Language on-line course launched

by isleofman.com 23rd June 2016
Culture Vannin is pleased to announce the launch of a new on-line language course for beginner learners of Manx. The new course has been produced in conjunction with the highly successful on-line course provider Say Something in Welsh (SSIW) and initially consists of 18, 30 minute lessons or word games that provide a remarkable introduction to learning the language.

Say Something in Manx follows the same language methodology as SSIW which consists of a series of challenges that involve no reading or writing but simple repetition of increasingly complex patterns in the language.

Adrian Cain, Manx Language Development Officer for Culture Vannin commented, ‘that it has been a real coup for us to work with the team at SSIW. Their unique methodology is a real eye-opener to people and learners will be amazed by the complex sentences that they will be able to pick up and use within a remarkably short period of time.’

Aran Jones, co-founder and CEO of SaySomethingin.com, thinks that this is an important step forward for the company. 'We've got a very established presence as a provider of Welsh courses, but we're hugely keen to provide effective materials for all the other Celtic languages as well. Working with Culture Vannin has helped us get our course creation tool into good working order, and we're now optimistic that we'll be able to produce courses for Scottish and Irish Gaelic, and Cornish and Breton, in the coming months.'

The course is now available at https://www.saysomethingin.com/manx but as part of the launch process Aran Jones founder of SSIW will, on Monday the 27th of June, be crash-testing as many of the sessions as possible in one day on a live video stream on Google hangouts. People will be able to follow Aran’s progress during the day and see just how much Manx he can get to grips with in one sitting. The live stream can be accessed at: www.saysomethingin.com/manxday
