Port Erin Commissioners has launched two public electric charge points at its office on Bridson Street, Port Erin.
Chair, Mr Nick Watterson announced, “We are pleased to offer a charging solution for electric vehicles visiting Port Erin. There is an increasing number of electric vehicles being registered on the Island, including our own electric van, which has been a great success.
All of the household waste collected within Port Erin is processed at the Energy from Waste (EfW) facility. The EfW generates enough electricity to run our electric van for a whole year from just 3.5T of household waste.”
“As part of our electric vehicle initiative, it was always the plan to introduce vehicle charging points outside our office on Bridson Street, not only for us to charge our vehicle, but also to allow other electric vehicle users to top up their vehicles whilst visiting or
shopping in Port Erin.”
“We reviewed some of the issues seen at other charging locations around the Island, and have taken those into consideration as part of the implementation and hope that the users will have a trouble free experience in using the points. Our chargers are the latest fast chargers, which should provide a secure connection for all electric vehicles currently available in the Island.”
“Signage has been erected at the end of Bridson Street to indicate electric vehicle drivers where they are able to charge. Both charge points are located at the front of the Commissioners’ Office and allow visitors a 2hr charge time. The charging area has been designated as an electric vehicle charging only disc zone, so users are reminded to display parking discs.”
Mr Watterson concluded, “We’d like to thank Manx Utilities for working closely with us in implementing the solution who have supplied us with the charge points. The number of electric vehicles on the Island is expected to further grow, and this joint
initiative between Manx Utilities and Port Erin Commissioners demonstrates our commitment to further encourage their use and help the environment.”
