Three winners have been chosen from the Island’s schools and sixth form colleges recognising the best design and engineering coursework projects submitted by Isle of Man students.
Winners are selected from GCSE, A-Level and International Baccalaureate level submissions for the three prizes on offer - Best GCSE, Best A Level/International Baccalaureate and Best of the Best.
This year’s winners were chosen at an evening judging event on 20th June at Ronaldsway Airport. The awards were presented by political representatives from two of the organisations with whom the awards are run in conjunction; Laurence Skelly MHK, Minister for the Department or Economic Development and Tim Crookall MLC, Minister for Education and Children.
The competition is also supported by the Isle of Man’s well-established Engineering and Manufacturing Sector,
Laurence Skelly MHK, Minister for the Department of Economic Development commented:
‘The tremendous standard of entries in this year’s competition demonstrates the Island’s continued commitment to the very best in design and technology education and training. As a growing sector for the Island it was a privilege to see first-hand the skill and talent of tomorrow’s industry stars.’
Adrian Harrison, Engineering and Manufacturing Sector Skills Champion for the Department added:
‘The exhibition and judging event are a part of the ACE (Awareness of Careers in Engineering) programme which the sector runs in conjunction with the Department of Education and Children and Department of Economic Development in order to ensure the sector can recruit local people with the skills and enthusiasm to work in this dynamic sector.’
