Holea Cox, Caitlin Barnett and Lucy Pendlebury each won awards and prizes at this year’s annual Norman Sayle Prize for Art competition on June 16, run by the Archibald Knox Society and sponsored by Isle of Man Post Office.
Holea Cox, secured the prize for ‘First Year National Diploma’ – overall body of work, Caitlin Barnett, was awarded the ‘Knox/Sayle future prize for innovative work’ and Lucy Pendlebury won the 'Overall Knox/Sayle prize for Manx inspired artwork'.
Commenting on her award Holea said: "I am really surprised and grateful to have won."
Caitlin said: "I'm a bit shocked about winning; it's nice as this is a personal project."
Lucy also commented: "I'm happy that I've won, it's a real confidence booster."
The work of all three artists was moderated by a panel of artistic judges: Myra Gilbert, Carola Rush, Juan Moore and Sarah Read - a former A 'level Art and AS ‘level Graphics student representing her employer Isle of Man Post Office, competition sponsor.
Venerable Brian Partington, OBE, Board Member of Isle of Man Post Office and Rosemary Sayle, widow of the late Norman Sayle one of the most celebrated Manx artists of recent times, presented the awards and prizes to the three outstanding students.
Commenting on the awards Brian Partington said: "This year’s three winners demonstrate a continuation of the Island's great artistic tradition and Isle of Man Post Office is pleased to continue to sponsor the awards and support the developing talent of the Isle of Man's young artists."
