Minister to take part in Twitter Q&A

by isleofman.com 8th July 2016
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK will be hosting a live question and answer session on Twitter later this month.

Using the hashtag #askphil, people will be able to tweet questions to @PhilGawne on a wide range of topics. Minister Gawne will be online for 45 minutes from 2pm on Friday 15 July.

Twitter is an online social networking service that enables users to send and read short 140-character messages called tweets. It has more than 15 million active users of all ages in the United Kingdom.

The Minister said: ‘Digital media is an effective way to respond directly to issues, ideas and concerns raised by the people we serve. I try to be as open and accessible as possible and use Facebook and Twitter to listen and learn, as well to explain decisions and exchange views.’

He added: ‘I am passionate about encouraging more people to engage in Manx politics, so they can help shape the future of our nation and their local communities. Social media is an excellent communications tool and means of stimulating discussion in an increasingly digital democracy.’

The Minister is hoping to use the Twitter Q&A to respond to questions about the progress achieved by the Department of Infrastructure on a number of important projects.

He said: ‘This is a busy Department with a high public profile. We are responsible for maintaining ?1billion worth of assets and delivering a high quality infrastructure that allows the Isle of Man to flourish. I want to promote an open and honest dialogue with the public about the issues that matter to them.’
