‘China in her hand’ is the latest novel in a series of Manx Connection books by local author Graham Hamer. Based in the Isle of Man, ‘China in her hand’ is the story of two women who plan their revenge for events from the past. But one of them is nursing a dark secret from the other.
Graham Hamer was born in Laxey, the third son of the vicar of Laxey. He obtained a scholarship to King William’s College and upon leaving school joined his family in Norfolk, where they had relocated. He spent the next 30 years working in a variety of jobs that took him all over the world from Kuwait to France and The Netherlands.
He retired early and moved back to Isle of Man to take care of his ageing mother and now spends his time with his wife Marie-Danielle in both France and at his home in Peel in the island.
While still working, Graham wrote the novel, 'Chasing Paper', based mainly on the Isle of Man. He chose to self-publish as it was a simpler way to get to market. Following this he drafted his second novel 'Walking on Water' which followed the lives of some of the characters from the first book, but was located in The Netherlands. However, the manuscript sat collecting dust for many years. It was only in 2014 that he took another look and decided to revise it, completing it to the standard he wanted.
That was when his laptop began to take over his life and he found himself creating a third book, 'Under the Rock', again based on the Isle of Man. And so 'The Manx Connection' series of books began. Since then, three more books have been published, all of the stories located on the island. Although the books have reoccurring characters, they do stand alone as novels and would appeal to readers who enjoy mystery, thriller, action and of course island based books.
‘There is so much to see and experience on the Isle of Man that inspiration for The Manx Connection books comes from undertaking simple 'what if' scenarios as I journey round the island. The next story soon jumps out and mugs me!’ Says Graham.
‘China in Her Hand' has just been released and is available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle format. Cover illustrations by island based artist Bruno Cavellec. You can read more about The Manx Connection books at
