An automatic external defibrillator (AED) has been installed in Mooragh Park.
Fixed to the wall of Costa Coffee’s lakeside outlet, the AED has been donated by Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital League of Friends and the external housing by Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation; both components will be maintained by Ramsey Town Commissioners.
Speaking at the official handover, League of Friends’ chairman Leonard Singer said: ‘The League of Friends is delighted to have provided this AED for Mooragh Park, one of Ramsey’s most popular year-round attractions. This donation follows on from the three AEDs the Friends provided for the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service at Ramsey for use by fire crews when responding to emergencies.’
Ramsey Town Commissioners’ chairman Lawrie Hooper said: ‘With many cardiac arrests occurring away from the confines of a hospital early defibrillation is crucial. Bystander intervention by means of an easy-to-use AED can be the difference between life or death, so we are pleased to have joined forces with Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital League of Friends and Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation in the provision of this essential device for the local community.’
A defibrillator device is also located in Ramsey Town Hall, where staff have been trained in its use by police training officers.
