Flat Fire Port St Mary

by isleofman.com 16th August 2016

At 1930 yesterday the ESJCR responded crews from Port Erin, Castletown and Douglas stations to attend a fire in a flat in Port St Mary.

The call for help was made via 999 from a passer-by who saw thick black smoke pouring out from a top floor window of the premises involved. It was apparent at the time of the call that persons were in the affected flat and may require rescuing.

Upon hearing the fire alarm the occupants successfully evacuated the premises and assembled outside waiting for the arrival of the emergency services.

No one was injured at the incident; however to alleviate the effects of smoke one of the occupants received oxygen therapy from the paramedics on scene.

The fire was confined to the kitchen and was caused by unattended pans left on the hob.

The IOMFRS wish to thank the members of public who assisted at the scene and to remind everyone of the importance of having an evacuation plan and working smoke alarms.
