Daphne Caine to stand in Garff

by isleofman.com 19th August 2016

Maughold resident Daphne Caine has declared her intention to stand for election to the House of Keys in the constituency of Garff.

Daphne, 47, who is married with a family, said she felt compelled to stand to ensure the Isle of Man negotiates a positive future post Brexit.

Standing as an independent, she lists her main policies as promoting fairness and equality, protecting the vulnerable, ensuring open government and securing the Island's position on the world stage.

'I am someone who has always preferred a lower profile role advising decision makers,' she said. 'But there comes a time when you have to put up or shut up. I feel the Isle of Man is teetering on a precipice at the moment. Decisions taken in the next few months will be critical for our future and I want to feel we have the best brains making those decisions. I don't pretend to know all the answers but I passionately want the island to succeed.'

Daphne was born and raised in Sheffield and trained as a journalist before taking a job as reporter with Isle of Man Newspapers in 1989. She has worked for the Isle of Man Civil Service for 20 years initially as Press and PR Manager to the (then) Department of Tourism and Leisure in (1996-2006), at the Department of Home Affairs (2007-2010), at the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure (2010-2014) and currently as customer services team leader at the public transport division of the Department of Infrastructure (2014- present).
