Want to make more of the life you love? Anyone Can Become a Young Farmer!

Local clubs are calling for new members, and Robinson’s are helping them to spread the word

Fun, friendships, travel, career opportunities... there’s much than meets the eye to being a Young Farmer. That’s the message from the Isle of Man Young Farmers Federation, which is encouraging people to see the organisation in a fresh light as it looks to recruit new members.

In the Isle of Man, there are four clubs representing the Island regions: Central, Northern, Southern and Eastern. These clubs belong on a wider scale to one of the largest rural-orientated organisations in Britain, with 612 groups across the UK and Wales, so members have the potential for activities and adventures far beyond their ‘stamping ground’. At the same time, joining Young Farmers is also a brilliant way to open up to new experiences with like-minded people in your local community.

Federation Secretary Angela Teare is keen to dispel misconceptions about the organisation and put across just how vibrant life as a Young Farmer can be. “It’s not all about tractors and wellies, far from it!” comments Angela. “In fact, you don’t even have to be a farmer or belong to a farming family; you just have to have a love of the outdoors and the countryside.

“Anyone between the ages of 10 and 36 can join up. Meet new people, take part in a host of social and sporting activities, travel nationally and internationally, learn new skills and boost your career prospects – the benefits are endless. One thing all Young Farmers have in common is a huge zest for life, so you can expect never to have a dull moment!”

Supporting the Federation in their recruitment drive is Robinson’s, the Island’s leading food and flowers wholesaler and retailer. As one of the oldest family businesses in the Isle of Man, the group – which is celebrating its 130th Anniversary this year – naturally understands the strength and enjoyment that come from teamwork and a sense of community.

Spokesperson Katie Mathieson-Nelson said that the team has been delighted to sponsor the creation of a brand new leaflet promoting Young Farmers. “As part of our 130th Anniversary celebrations, we’ve been working with groups in the local community”, says Katie.

“Robinson’s has always had close links to the Manx countryside, working in partnership with many local farmers and growers, so we’ve been really happy to be part of this initiative. Young Farmers is a fantastic, positive organisation in so many ways – and they always seem to be having so much fun!”

Anyone interested in joining a local Young Farmers club can simply contact Angela Teare on 321664 or send a message via the Isle of Man Young Farmers Facebook page.
