Can you meet the Granite Challenge?

by isleofman.com 24th August 2016
Entries are still open for The Children’s Centre’s off-road GraniteMann triathlon, which challenges you to swim, cycle and run a tough course around Cringle Reservoir.

First held in 2014 and sponsored each year by PwC Isle of Man, GraniteMann returns on Sunday, October 2 2016.

Last year saw 120 competitors tackle routes around the reservoir and plantation, either as teams or individuals. The closing date for entries is Wednesday, September 14 2016.

‘GraniteMann is a fantastic challenge,’ said the Children’s Centre’s Lisa Motley. ‘It attracts seasoned triathletes, fell runners and mountain bikers, along with others who just want to pit themselves against a tough course.

‘But it’s also a great fundraising opportunity too, with ?3,700 raised during last year’s GraniteMann. The Children’s Centre is a registered charity and needs ?9,800 a week to run our charitable services, which is a major fundraising challenge each year.

‘It is events like GraniteMann, and the incredible generosity of the general public and sponsors such as PwC that enable us to reach our goals. Our other sponsors are Asia Fresh, who are kindly providing prizes for the event, and the team at Bikestyle, who will be lending their technical support on the day.’

The course is made up of a 400m reservoir swim followed by a 10km mountain bike ride around the plantation trails ending with a 5km scenic trail run using the tracks in the plantation.

To enter GraniteMann, visit www.thechildrenscentre.org.im/events and if you would like more information about the event, call Lisa Motley on 676076.

Andrew Dunn, Partner at PwC Isle of Man, said: ‘We have supported The Children’s Centre, and the vital work it does, for many years. We were drawn to GraniteMann from the very start, and have watched it go from strength to strength.

‘By covering all the associated costs for GraniteMann, it means that every pound raised by the triathletes will go towards The Children’s Centre, and we are hoping the event can top its total from last year.’
