The Directors of Glen Truan Golf Links Limited today announce that Glen Truan, one of the Isle of Man's 9 golf courses will be marketed for sale and development.
Developed in Bride on the Isle of Man, Glen Truan received planning permission in the 1990s and has been successfully operated as a small family business. The property consists of over 150 acres of land adjacent to the Ayres Nature Reserve, two lakes and offers stunning views of the Lake District and Scotland.
The golf course, farmhouse, chalet, greenkeepers shed and former farm buildings will be included in the sale, which will be marketed to both private and corporate investors.
Richard Radcliffe, Director of Glen Truan Golf Links Limited said:
"Glen Truan offers an excellent opportunity for inward investment to the Isle of Man, including significant potential to benefit the visitor economy such as for the development of a hotel, spa or eco village, subject to planning. Developers will now be invited to take Glen Truan forward through acquisition and development of the site, whilst respecting the outstanding natural beauty and wildlife on both the golf course and within the surrounding area".
The predominantly links course consists of eighteen holes, practice area and 260 yard driving range. Fairways follow the natural valleys between ancient sea and windswept dunes, which are surrounded by heather and gorse, in an attractive and peaceful area of the Isle of Man.
The course is situated adjacent to the Ayres Nature Reserve, an area of special scientific interest and benefits from abundant wildlife. It offers two private fishing lakes, created following extraction of aggregates. The lakes offer a peaceful haven for wildlife, whilst also supplying natural ground water to irrigate the golf course.
Glen Truan was developed on the site of Ballaskilley Farm which has been owned by the Radcliffe family since the 1970s. It was developed by Richard and the late Ewan Radcliffe, and their sister Helen.
Richard continued:
"The family have enjoyed welcoming golfers from across the world to Glen Truan, including His Royal Highness, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, who signed the visitor book with the caption 'need more practice'.
We extend our thanks to all those who have both played and enjoyed the course, however, the time has now come to hang up our working boots and enjoy retirement".
Glen Truan will be marketed for sale, and will close to the public on 30 September 2016. Interested parties should contact glentruangolf@manx.net and will be referred directly to the acting agent. Price exclusively on application.
The course and lakes will be maintained for enjoyment by the family until sold. Both members and players at Glen Truan have been invited to take up membership at golf courses across the Isle of Man.
