Isle of Man represented at European Association of Archaeologists Annual Conference

Manx National Heritage, the National Heritage Agency for the Isle of Man is represented at the European Association of Archaeologists Annual Conference in Lithuania this week.

The conference is the largest annual gathering of archaeologists in Europe with around 1500 delegates taking part.

Andrew Johnson, Field Archaeologist and Inspector of Ancient Monuments at Manx National Heritage will present his current research on the historical landscape of the Isle of Man: one on the location of early medieval chapels (‘keeills’), and the other on historical routes and pathways to and from the coast.

The conference attracts archaeologists from all areas of the profession, including museum curation, university academia, development archaeology, heritage interpretation, independent research, and statutory protection. It offers an unparalleled opportunity for networking and learning about latest policy, research and archaeological techniques.

The conference commenced on Wednesday 31st August and concludes on Sunday 4th September.
