Suspected gas explosion at Douglas house

by isleofman.com 5th September 2016

At 11.51hrs on 2nd September 2016 crews from Douglas station responded to reports of an explosion at a property in Devonshire Road, Douglas.

On arrival, the officer in charge of the first appliance discovered that an explosion had occurred in the kitchen of the property following a suspected gas leak.

The female occupant was thankfully unharmed as she was in another part of the property at the time of the explosion and managed to quickly isolate gas supplies prior to Fire Service arrival which minimised further damage to the kitchen.

Crews checked the property to ensure it was safe and removed a small amount of smoke using a positive pressure fan. Damage was confined to the contents of the kitchen caused by the sudden increase of pressure within the compartment.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
