The 7th Isle of Man Adventure Race, sponsored by the Mylchreests Group takes place tomorrow. The 40km journey through the stunning Manx coastline and countryside starts at St John's at 10am with a challenging mountain bike stage involving Archallagan and South Barrule plantations along the way, to Eary Cushlin where competitors will then run the Raad ny Foillan coastal footpath to Bradda Head.
The spectacular natural features at Archallagan, Cringle Reservoir and the Iconic Milner's Tower on Bradda Head lend themselves perfectly to the Special Stages, (unknown challenges completed along the way.)
The gruelling race then concludes on the sand at the front of the Bay Hotel on Port Erin beach, where a Race Special handmade Burger and Chips is on offer for just ?5.50!
Race Director Keirron Tastagh said "This journey is like no other event on the island, a mixture of different forms of human powered transport broken up with 3 fun special stages along the way. Thanks must go to our sponsors the Mylchreests group and the various landowners and supporters that make the event possible".
"There is a photo competiton running in conjunction with the Race, with ?250 worth of prizes for capturing the 'Spirit of the Race'." John Keggin - Race Manager
John added "The first Competitors will be expected at Port Erin Beach shortly after 2pm, (Bradda Head before), both providing some exceptional photo opportunities."
The race has evolved since it was launched in 2010 and is ran as a non-stop race for teams of 2 and solo's, the latter field attracting its highest entry this year. From next year the race is being held every other year to allow the opportunity to introduce the Isle of Man Orienteering Championship in its place on the alternate year. Keirron explains "We've been wanting to launch an Orienteering event for some time and the Adventure Race has allowed us to build up to this point and so, next year we are excited to be holding the first championship on Saturday 16th September 2017".
