24hr cycle challenge on TT course

by isleofman.com 22nd September 2016

From noon on Saturday 24 September until noon on Sunday 25 September fifteen cyclists will be taking on the Isle of Man CC 24hr challenge and attempting to ride as many laps as possible round the TT Course. Many of them are riding to raise money for charities including the Make a Wish Foundation and the RAF Charitable Trust.

The cyclists come from Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland and the West of England. Many of them are riding in pairs, but there are two veteran men solo cyclists and Kirstie Harper, the first woman to ever attempt the challenge solo. Greenrock Ltd, the event organisers, are asking everyone on the TT course at the time to look out for them and show them a bit of support.

The 2016 24hr challenge builds on the success of last year’s Half Bike Heroes challenge, also organised by Greenrock, when four men rode their folding bicycles around the Mountain Course for 24 hours. They raised over ?10,190.34 for the Brain Tumour Charity.

Also on next Saturday is the Isle of Man CC Sportive, now running for its fifth consecutive year, with over 60 cyclists tackling one, two or three laps of the Mountain Course. One man, a disabled army veteran from Kings Lynn, will be attempting the course on his hand cycle. Entries for both events close at midnight on Wednesday 21 September.
