Top Talent Concert at the Gaiety Theatre for Children of Nepal and Rebecca House – 26th November 2016
On 26th November, the Rotary Clubs of Ramsey and Rushen and Western Mann are jointly promoting a Charity Variety Concert in aide of two Island children’s charities – Rebecca House and the Pahar Trust in Nepal.
One of the Rotary organisers, Terry Groves, commented “Rotary works within and for its Community. This exciting variety show puts top Manx talent on the stage of the Gaiety for our charities, for our communities and is supported by individuals from within our community here on the Island. Ticket sales and donations will give us a fantastic show of music, dance, singing, magic and sheer enjoyment”.
Rebecca House is the Island’s Children’s Hospice. It provides care for children living with life limiting or life threatening illness. This is its 10th year of doing so. Prior to 2005 children and their families had to go off the Island, in often heart-breaking circumstances. Funds were raised to build Rebecca House which opened its doors in November 2007.
Today, the Rebecca House team looks after 32 children and their families in a beautiful, loving home from home of care for the children. Occasionally the Rebecca House team provides end of life care, be it at home or within Rebecca House.
Rebecca House is often quoted to be a life saver by the families who use its services. Children flourish during their time spent there and parents see it as a safe haven to which they can turn. Their quality of life is enhanced, often in an unmeasurable way. The service costs approximately ?500,000 each year to run and is always seeking financial support.
The Pahar Trust Nepal is a Manx based charity founded in 1993. Its purpose is to build schools in remote mountainous regions of Nepal mainly in the Ghorka region. This is the region that suffered worst in the recent earthquakes which devastated the country.
The Charity also trains teachers, provides educational resources that ultimately gives Nepalese children an opportunity to have a good education in a safe, secure learning environment. To date over 30 new schools have been funded exclusively from monies raised in the Isle of Man. Several of the old schools were badly damaged during the recent earthquakes and money is urgently needed to re-build the classrooms.
The Isle of Man Government, Manx schools, many organisations and individuals, and perhaps most significantly, children, have raised or donated substantial funding to the charity over the years. Funds raised from the concert will help them repair and rebuild the damaged or destroyed schools and replace equipment.
The Rotary Foundation is this year celebrating 100 years of ‘Doing Good’ and we are pleased to support Rebecca House and Pahar Trust, two worthy charities.
This will be an exciting evening of music, dance, magic and laughter; the best of young Manx talent on stage raising money for these wonderful charities. All are welcome, for a wonderful family evening, which promises to be a great start to the festivities.
Tickets for the concert, to be held at the Gaiety Theatre on the last Saturday in November, are available from the Villa/Gaiety Box Office (www.villagaiety.com) or the Welcome Centre (686801) and are ?12.50 each (under 16’s tickets are ?8), with all proceeds being divided between the two charities.
