The ‘First Names’ in charity baking out-do themselves for Macmillan coffee morning

by isleofman.com 10th October 2016
On Friday 30 September, First Names Group in the Isle of Man pulled out all the stops to take part in the Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Having moved to a brand new office in July, which brought all Isle of Man ‘First Names’ all under one roof for the first time in over two decades, the business felt there had never been a better time to get involved with Macmillan’s most notable annual fundraising event.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning asks groups and individuals all over the UK to host their own coffee mornings in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The Isle of Man team produced an array of homemade baked goods for the occasion, including cupcakes, tray bakes and cakes of all forms and flavours, sausage rolls, pasties, biscuits, pies and fresh cream eclairs.

Competition further added to the effort made, and from among the talented troupe of bakers, the prize for ‘best decorated’ was won by Danaa Callow in the Group Finance team’s beautiful Fraisier cake, while ‘best tasting’ was awarded to Ellan Hall and Allana Kelly from FNTC, First Names Group’s leisure business, for their devil’s food cake decorated with chocolate fingers, M&Ms, Maltesers, Smarties and chocolate buttons.

Moreover, the event successfully raised a total of ?560.09 for Macmillan, which the office’s Charity Committee then rounded up to an even ?600.

Managing Director of First Names Group Isle of Man, Craig Brown, commented:

“Friday morning in the office was so much fun. The team produced a tantalizing spread, impressive both in terms of quantity and quality. Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is a wonderful initiative and we all thoroughly enjoyed showing off our baking prowess and stuffing our faces for a great cause! Everyone is looking forward to next year already.”
