Hills Meadow Fire 11 October

by isleofman.com 12th October 2016

At approximately 9:45am on 11 October two appliances were dispatched from Douglas fire station to attend a large fire at Hills Meadow Industrial Estate. On arrival, the crew were faced with a developing fire which was fortunately contained and extinguished before any buildings were seriously affected.

The crew wore breathing apparatus and used two hosereels and a jet to extinguish the rapidly developing fire. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for fire spread and damage to one of the commercial units.

No one was injured and all neighbouring businesses were not affected by the effects of the fire or subsequent smoke.

The fire was confined to the area adjacent to the industrial unit which contained a large amount of rubbish and numerous parked vehicles, of which three became involved in the fire as a result of radiated heat.

The IOMFRS wish to thank the members of public who assisted at the scene and remind everyone of the consequences of fire and the damage that may be caused. Take care when burning rubbish and ensure that all traces are extinguished correctly – never leave unattended.
