Hidden Hearing’s Suzanne Tucker has completed training in Micro Suction, earning a qualification which enables her to give clients in the Isle of Man a less invasive method of ear wax removal.
The qualification means Suzanne can now offer Micro Suction from Hidden Hearing clinics around the Isle of Man.
Irrigation is the most common method of removing ear wax and involves pumping water into the ear canal to wash the wax out. Some people find the process uncomfortable, experience pain and are concerned about the safety of irrigation.
Micro Suction involves using a small medical vacuum to gently remove the wax, which is less invasive and found to be more comfortable by most people.
The training course Suzanne attended in Chester is accredited by the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists (BSHAA) and the British Academy of Audiology. It covered safety, clinical procedures, use of equipment, risk assessment and understanding client case history among several other subjects.
Suzanne was observed conducting Micro Suction wax removal on a number of occasion and her performance assessed. At the end of the training she was certified as a competent practitioner.
She said: ‘Micro Suction is the newest and most highly recommended method of removing wax. It is considered to be less invasive and harmful than syringing and the safest way of removing wax, as the medical vacuum used cannot cause any harm to the ear drum.
‘A build-up of ear wax can cause diminished hearing, earache, tinnitus, infections and other issues, so it is important to have your ear canals regularly checked and, when necessary, cleaned by a qualified professional. I’m delighted to have completed the training successfully so I am now able to offer this improved method of wax removal to clients in the Isle of Man, which will hopefully encourage more people to take care of their ear health.’
It is a further qualification for Suzanne, who has also completed a rigorous professional training programme covering Anatomy and Physiology, Acoustics and Hearing, Hearing Aid Technology, and Professional Practise/Care and Rehabilitation. She qualified with an ‘Award in Hearing Care Assistant Competence approved by the BSHAA’ and was registered with the Society and the Health and Care Professions Counsel at the end of the course.
Suzanne and her colleague Audiologist Elaine Norris offer free hearing tests, expert advice and treatment appointments, including Micro Suction, in Douglas, Ramsey and Castletown at Tracey Bell clinics in each town. To book an appointment call 617683.
