by isleofman.com 14th October 2016

Manx-resident Guitarists will have the opportunity to study with fingerstyling genius and Sky Arts Guitar Star Mentor, Mike Dawes, who will visit the island for GuitarFest 2016 later this month.

Mike performs on Friday 28th October at the Centenary Centre in Peel for a “Nu-Coustic Guitar” night with special guest Grammy award-winner Amrit Sond, before holding a one off MasterClass on Saturday 29th October.

Mike Dawes is truly an exceptionally talented musician with the ability to seamlessly replicate a full band experience live on stage with just his guitar. His life long love of that instrument has led to a level of skill that he shares with passion.

Jonno Gollow, festival organiser says, “This is a rare and truly unique opportunity for the Island’s players to learn from a world master and to hone and develop their guitar playing skills even further. Mike is considered one of the finest guitar players on the planet. I am very excited that he has agreed to play for Isle of Man music lovers as part of GuitarFest 2016.”

The Masterclass is at Peel Centenary Centre and is open to a maximum of 40 participants. Masterclass places cost just ?10.00 per person and should be pre-booked online at www.etickets.im/jp.

GuitarFest concludes on Sunday 30th October with an “industry event” where guitarists, songwriters, musicians and other creatives will have the chance to enjoy a pleasant brunch with visiting musicians at HQ Bar and Grill in the Mereside Hotel, Douglas. As well as a fantastic selection of culinary delights, GuitarFest musicians Martyn Joseph and Amrit Sond will be sharing tales from the road, discussing life as full-time working musicians and giving the audience a chance to grill them about life in the music business.

Martyn was signed to a big label but now works as an independent musician, so he has a breadth of experience of more than 30 years in the industry to offer to you if you’re interested in being a professional in the creative industries. Tickets for the industry brunch are ?12.00 per person and the price includes a full Manx breakfast, tea/coffee and juice. Tickets are only available online from www.eTickets.im/jp.
