Mannvend support Manx Breast Cancer Support Group with opening of ‘Quiet Room’

by isleofman.com 20th October 2016

The Manx Breast Unit became operational on 1st February 2016. All the rooms in the unit were offered to Manx companies, individuals and trusts for sponsorship and Tracey Leahy and her company Mannvend kindly offered to sponsor one of the quiet Rooms.

Julie Stokes of Manx Breast Cancer Support Group said, ‘These rooms are extremely important when patients have been given bad news. They are a quiet space ‘a haven’ where you can be given time to get yourself together, have a cuppa and then leave quietly via the side door without having to leave the unit through a waiting room full of patients. The Charity was also keen to ensure that patients had quality tea and coffee facilities in the waiting areas and Mannvend stepped in with a delicious Lavazza Bean to Cup machine’.

There are over 100 cases of breast cancer each year on the Isle of Man and every woman on the Island will at some time in their life use the Manx breast unit either for breast screening - women are called for breast screening every 2 years aged 50-70 or to use the Symptomatic Breast Clinic, where the team deal with all manner of breast problems not just breast cancer.

‘It is a wonderful facility for the Isle of Man community to have. As a Manx owned business many of our team and their families on the island have been affected by breast cancer so we are delighted to support this very worthy cause with a dedicated facility for patients to receive treatment and support.’ Tracey Leahy.
