About 6.30 pm on Sunday 30th October 2016 a single vehicle road traffic collision occurred on Lezayre Road, close to the junction with the Churchtown Loop Road.
The vehicle was being driven in the direction of Sulby when the driver has lost control and collided with a tree, before coming to rest in the carriageway. The female driver of the vehicle, a 27 year old female from Jurby, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two children in the car received minor injuries but were conveyed to hospital where they remain for observations.
Inspector Derek Flint, the senior investigating Officer said; "This collision was attended by all three emergency services but sadly there was nothing that could be done for the young lady who had lost her life. The vehicle involved was a black Vauxhall Astra hatchback and I'd like to ask anyone that may have seen the vehicle driving in the North of the Island earlier to call us at Police Headquarters on 631212. We are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances at this time.
I’d also like drivers to pay heed to some advisory signs that have been placed out overnight. These are concerning some issues we discovered with a newly laid road surface, rather than anything directly to do with the collision this evening. The DOI are addressing these matters, and I’d ask people to take care in the area whilst work is carried out.”
