A Manx dancer who is acclaimed on the international stage returns home to conduct workshops next week.
In a visit organised by the
Isle of Man Arts Council, Lloyd Mayor will work with students at his former school, Ballakermeen High, and at Ramsey Grammar School, The Academy of Dance and the Christine Wild Theatre School.
While at Ballakermeen, Lloyd won the Young Dancer of Mann title in 2009. He went on to train in contemporary dance at
Rambert.
He then won a place at the world-renowned
Martha Graham School in New York and was awarded an apprentice post, which meant working as a semi-professional dancer while completing his studies.
He has since had numerous principal roles with the Martha Graham Dance Company.
In 2014, Lloyd won the
Clive Barnes Dance Award, which recognises young emerging artists. The same year, the Arts Council appointed him as ambassador for its Island of Culture celebrations.
Geoff Corkish MBE MLC, Chairman of the Arts Council, said: ‘Lloyd is a superb ambassador, not only for the Arts Council but for the Isle of Man. He has an exceptional talent that is seeing him forge a career in the arts and achieving success at a relatively young age.
‘In teaching young people dance and talking to them about his career, Lloyd will inspire them and leave them with valuable skills.’
Lloyd said: ‘I am honoured and grateful that the Isle of Man Arts Council has made it possible for me to come back to share the knowledge of my craft.’
