Move It Dance steals the show in Blackpool

by isleofman.com 22nd November 2016

Move It Dance claimed a haul of medals at the Cheerdance UK competition in Blackpool.

The 125-strong team enjoyed massive success as it competed against the cream of dancing talent from across the British Isles at the magnificent Tower Ballroom.

Cheerdance UK, which lasted for 20 hours over two days, brought together the top 1,000 cheerleading dancers from around Britain. Representing the Isle of Man at the competition for the second consecutive year, Move It Dance’s students brought home 25 medals, including four 1st places, seven 2nd places and one 3rd place in solo competitions, as well as 2nd place for group Intensity X-Treme in a squad category.

Alongside students aged from 4 to 15, the medallist included some of the students’ parents who competed in categories for mums.
Move It Founder Kate Caine, who accompanied the dancers to Blackpool, said: ‘We are so proud of everyone who stepped up to the dance floor and danced their socks off. The Tower Ballroom is such an iconic venue which we are very privileged to be able to compete in, and the location adds to the experience for the children. The standard of the other competitors was really high this year, so our success shows the outstanding level of talent we have in the Island. Our students did us and the Isle of Man proud.’

Co-founder Linzi Brown added: ‘Last year we took 30 children to Cheerdance UK and this year the team had 125 members, which shows there is growing demand for Cheerdance and huge excitement about representing the Isle of Man in major competitions. More and more youngsters are coming to Move It Dance and it is really exciting to see so many children in our community getting involved with dancing of many different genres.’

Move It Dance will be competing again in March at the Cheerdance UK competition in Blackpool.

Move It, in Westmoreland Road, Douglas, opened in March 2014 and teaches a variety of dance styles, including Freestyle, Cheer, Lyrical, Street, Musical Theatre, Ballet, Tap and many others.
