On December 11th at 3pm Peel Cathedral will host the annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, celebrating the birth of Jesus. The service is a highlight of the Cathedral year and you can expect to hear all your favourite carols and descants performed by the talented cathedral choir. Dr Peter Litman, Cathedral Musical Director will direct, ably accompanied by organ scholar Max Smith who joined in September.
The selection of choir carols this year includes music by Britten, Chilcott, Willcocks and MacMillan.
The service will be attended by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor and Lady Gozney and is always a very popular Christmas service. The Cathedral choir has had a busy year, including many services and trip to Ireland. Sadly following this service they will say goodbye to two of their long term trebles, as their voices are changing and look forward to welcoming new trebles in the coming months.
Why not start your Christmas celebrations the traditional way with the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols? And find out who will sing the opening to the song ‘Once in Royal’? Following last year’s service Bishop Robert declared, ‘ the service was as good as anything I have heard at York Minster and Kings College Cambridge’. So, why not come and see for yourself!
Attendees are advised to arrive early to guarantee a seat, doors open at 2.15pm.
