Laxey Pavilion Voted Island’s Favourite Wedding Venue

by isleofman.com 5th December 2016

Laxey Pavilion, a social enterprise of The Children’s Centre, has been declared the Isle of Man’s favourite wedding venue in a popular award.

The accolade has come from My Manx Wedding, an online hub described as ‘the Island’s biggest wedding community’. The annual awards – which covered twenty-one categories – were decided by public vote, with the historic site in Laxey Glen Gardens emerging as the winner. Milntown estate, in Lezayre, came in second place.

Laxey Pavilion opened as a multi-event function space in September 2015, and hosted its first wedding in April 2016. What makes it a little different from other venues is its link to The Children’s Centre, the Manx-registered charity which helps children, young people and families through a wide variety of projects and services. All profits made from the Pavilion’s in-house, private events go directly to the The Children’s Centre’s charitable initiatives.

Laura Gill, Laxey Pavilion’s Manager, explains, “Our mission from the start was to restore a much-loved but neglected building and ensure its survival for future generations. The success of the Pavilion also complements our fundraising work and contributes to the sustainability of The Children’s Centre.

“In addition to the events we host, both the Pavilion and surrounding gardens are home to a number of our services and programmes: our Mobex Team and Forest School, for instance, make great use of the fantastic outdoor space here.

“We are absolutely delighted to have won the My Manx Wedding Award, not least because we were chosen by local people.  It’s so rewarding to know that we can offer such a unique and beautiful venue to couples for their big day. What’s more, choosing the Pavilion ultimately benefits children and their families throughout our community – an added cause for celebration!”.
