A student who achieved ten straight A stars at GCSE last summer is the latest winner of the Nationwide International Mathematics Award at Queen Elizabeth II High School.
Seb Devereau, 16, recorded the highest mark in his GCSE mathematics examinations with an outstanding 94%, and is now well into his A Levels, where maths and subjects such as physics and chemistry are amongst those he is studying with the hope that he will eventually go to Oxford or Cambridge.
His score was also something of a personal triumph, as he managed to also beat his brother Alex to winning the Nationwide award. Alex had the second highest score in his GCSE mathematics examination.
Head of Mathematics, Olivia Graham, said Seb was a student who had a “gift” for the subject. “From a young age you could see that mathematics was the subject he loved. He was always going to be one of the favourites to win this award.”
Seb Devereau is now studying four subjects at A Level, taking on probably the four most time-consuming studies he could have chosen. He is now studying Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Further Maths.
David Findlay, senior marketing manager for Nationwide International, said, “We have been involved with sponsoring this award for the last 16 years, and each time we have been very impressed by the high standards achieved by the students.
“Seb is another outstanding student, and has a promising future ahead of him. We wish him the very best in the future.”
