An automatic external defibrillator (AED) has been installed in Noble’s Park thanks to a partnership between Douglas Borough Council, which provided the device and Manx charity Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation, which donated the outer casing.
The AED has been fixed to the wall of Noble’s Park Pavilion, adjacent to the public conveniences and near The Hoggery, headquarters of Manx Roadracing Medical Services LLC.
Council leader David Christian said: ‘The council is grateful to Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation for their donation, which means the AED can now be accessed by members of the public at any time of the day or night.
‘As with all medical emergencies, early intervention is crucial. Cardiac arrests can be suffered at any time, anywhere and employing a portable defibrillator can be critical in providing effective rapid response. Simply put, bystander intervention by means of a simple-to-use AED can mean the difference between life or death.’
The council has staff trained in the use of defibrillators which, in addition to Noble’s Park, are installed at Douglas town hall, Douglas golf course, the Henry Bloom Noble Library, Douglas borough crematorium and the Ballacottier service centre.
