Douglas Borough Council is inviting expressions of interest from local charities and not-for-profit organisations to get involved in Douglas Carnival 2017.

The date has been set - Sunday July 16th 2017 - for the event, the fourth in its recently revived history, which has earned a place at the forefront of the island’s social calendar: a large-scale high-profile community event offering attractions for all the family and unique opportunities for charities to enjoy heightened visibility. Participating local good causes will also be able to take advantage of the carnival’s supporting infrastructure, notably arranging road closures and deploying marshals.

Regeneration and community chairman Stephen Pitts said: ‘Douglas Carnival has become one of the island’s most popular and eagerly anticipated events, thanks in no small measure to those officers and staff of the council who go to great lengths to ensure the carnival is successful. The carnival’s also a great way for charities to showcase their work and promote their campaigns with the support of the council’s PR and marketing services.’

Proposals should provide outline details of the charity’s services, the nature of its involvement in the carnival and an indication of the benefits it would hope to bring to the event.

Proposals must be submitted no later than Tuesday January 31, 2017 to Douglas town centre manager Oliver Cheshire, 696304, ocheshire@douglas.gov.im.

More than one proposal per charity may be considered.
