Samaritans light up iconic buildings for Christmas awareness

by isleofman.com 19th December 2016

Two iconic Isle of Man structures will be lit up to raise awareness of Samaritans services and encourage people who are struggling to cope to get in touch with them.

From the 19th – 23rd December the Tower of Refuge and Ramsey Swingbridge will be lit up green, the Samaritans main colour, to remind the public of their services over the festive period.

It is being coordinated with the lighting up of prominent buildings across the UK over the Christmas period, including Blackpool Tower, Liverpool Town Hall, Ashton Memorial in Lancashire, The Hoad in Ulveston, St Michael's Church in Macclesfield, the Pyramid in Stockport and 1 Angel Square, Manchester.

Gill Porter, Director of Samaritans Isle of Man, said ‘Samaritans offers emotional support which is completely confidential, non-judgmental and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

This time of year can be very difficult for those who are struggling to cope, and we want to remind those who are that they have somewhere to turn and Samaritans are there to listen to anyone who feels they need to speak to us. Don’t suffer alone this Christmas, contact us.’

Samaritans has volunteers available to speak all day, every day. The number is 116 123 and is free to call, or you can email jo@samaritans.org.
