Council and Boots dispense right prescription for Christmas cheer

by isleofman.com 19th December 2016

More than 800,000 Christmas-loving internet users can’t be wrong. That’s the (still rising) number of people reached by a video of a festive flash mob in Boots, taken by Douglas town centre manager Oliver Cheshire, when Saturday Christmas shoppers paused from buying gift sets and foot spas to join in singing ‘Long Time Ago in Bethlehem’ led by Roc Vannin.

Mr Cheshire said: ‘The response has been absolutely phenomenal. At the last count we’ve reached 882,486 people, had 364,000 views, 4,400 shares, 2,800 comments and 10,197 likes. Thanks to the tremendous support from Boots and Roc Vannin this event clearly captured people’s hearts and minds and brought them together in the true spirit of Christmas.

‘At Douglas town centre management we’re always looking at new ways to connect with the community through social media but we never expected quite the reaction this video has caused. Comments have been just about universally positive and have come from the US, Canada, Australia, the UAE, New Zealand, China…even Peel.’
