Don’t Fall for Carbon Monoxide Alarm Phone Scam

by isleofman.com 21st December 2016

Householders in the Isle of Man are being advised by the OFT to put the phone down on cold callers offering to sell them carbon monoxide alarms.

The cold callers may try to persuade householders that they need to install an alarm due to “new government regulations”.  This is not the case.  They may even insist that householders will incur a substantial fine for not having an alarm installed.  This is also not the case.

Anyone receiving one of these cold calls or similar cold calls should report it to the OFT.

We all want to keep our home and family safe and one of the easiest ways we can do this is to ensure that we have both carbon monoxide alarms and smoke alarms correctly installed at home, however, purchasing alarms from cold callers is not the answer as they are more likely to be defective and/or counterfeit than those purchased from reputable sources.

Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service are available to give free home safety advice for smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms, the Community Safety Department can be contacted on 647303.
