Officers from the Public Protection Unit can confirm that an 80 year old retired vicar, formally of Douglas has appeared at Douglas Magistrates Court on the 12th January charged with an offence of indecent assault. The offences under investigation are historic in relation to an assault towards a schoolgirl in 1990. The matter has been adjourned until Thursday 2nd February 2017.
DS Nick Haxby stated. “The Public Protection Unit are, and have been, working closely with the Diocese in relation to the allegation and investigation. I would actively encourage any person if they are a victim of any sexual offence, whether that be recent or historic to contact the Police and the PPU department where officers can discuss any concerns, offer and provide advice and explain the process if any person wishes to make a formal complaint.”
