Talented Northern Irish singer-songwriters’ Manx debuts at Peel Centenary Centre

by isleofman.com 17th January 2017
JonnoPromotions’ 2017 events start with a bang with the debut of four talented singer-songwriters from Northern Ireland at Peel Centenary Centre on Saturday evening, February 11th.

The Songwriters’ Circle will showcase the outstanding talents of Stephen Macartney, Peter McVeigh, Warren Atwell and Katie Richardson.

All four musicians have won awards at the prestigious Belfast Nashville Songwriters’ Festival (“BelNash”), which saw them visit Nashville, getting opportunities to co-write songs with legendary songwriters and culminating in a performance at one of the top music venues, the Bluebird Cafe (as seen in the Nashville TV series).

This Songwriters’ Circle will see each perform one song in turn, talking about the writing process and story of the song before passing over to the next performer.  These four artists have completely different vocal styles and writing techniques which will result in a fantastic and unique night’s entertainment.

Music event promoter Jonno Gollow said: ‘I’ve seen each perform at BelNash over the years and it’s exciting to bring them to the Isle of Man for first time.  These individuals have bright and long careers ahead of them, so to attract them here is important.  Although it’s called BelNash it’s not only country music, it’s more a celebration of different songwriting styles – as Nashville is now the centre of all songwriting in the USA – country, pop, rock and more!

‘We are grateful to CityWing for assisting with the travel, and for the support of the Isle of Man Arts Council, without either of which we wouldn’t be able to stage this event.’

Stephen Macartney – Singer-guitarist with Bangor band Farriers, Stephen is an accomplished singer-songwriter who has been running a regular music residency on Saturdays at Fealty’s in Bangor.

Warren Attwell – Belfast singer-songwriter and guitarist, Warren has been compared to a young Bryan Adams.  His ever-evolving style combines a raw yet soothing voice.  He has been prolific in publishing online covers of other artists’ work and has just released a new crowdfunded EP.

Peter McVeigh – Named one of Hotpress Magazine’s ‘#Hotfor2015 Artists to watch’, he was described in Irish press as ‘one of the finest songwriters operating anywhere on this Island’.  Belfast-based Peter’s song When We Kiss won an award in 2015 in the unsigned category of the International Song Writing Competition, which attracts some 16,000 entries annually.

Katie Richardson – Katie performs and makes music under the name Goldie Fawn (previously Katie and the Carnival) and is also a member of the group Pleasure Beach, with whom she is currently touring the UK and Europe.

Tickets for the Songwriters’ Circle are ?12 and available from www.eTickets.im/jp, with printed tickets available from Celtic Gold in Peel, Shakti Man in Ramsey, Peter Norris Music in Douglas, and Thompson Travel in Port Erin.

In addition to the ticketed concert, the visiting musicians will be leading songwriting workshops on Saturday, February 11th from 2pm-4pm at the Athol Room, Peel Centenary Centre.  These are open to everyone and cost just ?10.00 per person. Tickets for the workshops must be booked in advance from www.eTickets.im/jp.

As well as the Saturday afternoon workshops and Saturday night concert these musicians will be working hard for their fees whilst on island with school visits, workshops and community sessions on Thrsday, Friday and Monday.
