Manx Bind Welfare Society to host fundraising fashion show

by isleofman.com 25th January 2017
Manx Blind Welfare Society, which provides free services and support to blind and visually impaired people across the Isle of Man, invites you to join its first ever fashion show.

The Society will be showing off a range of clothing available to buy from its shop, The VIP Store, from 2pm on Sunday 5th March. The fashion show will take place at the Society’s headquarters, Corrin Court in Heywood Avenue, Onchan, and tickets are ?10, including afternoon tea.

Items being modelled will also be for sale and all money raised during the event will go towards supporting essential work with visually impaired people. The Society relies entirely on fundraising, donations and legacies to provide free services and support including a talking book library, weekly recorded news service, computer training, specialist equipment, social events, advice and more.

In 2015 the Society opened The VIP Store in Strand Street, Douglas, selling a wide range of high quality pre-owned and new items to raise funds. The fashion show is an opportunity to present a sample of the nearly-new clothing the public has generously donated to the shop.

Office Manager Kerry Macduffie, who is organising the fashion show, said: ‘Since opening the shop we have been delighted by the level of support we’ve received. Not only are clothes, books, DVDs, jewellery and more flying off the rails and the shelves, but people have also been hugely generous in donating excellent quality items for us to sell.

‘We decided to arrange a special event to celebrate the success of The VIP Store as well as showing off some of the beautiful clothing we have on sale and a fashion show seemed like the perfect idea.’

Kerry added: ‘The show is open to all and the ticket price includes afternoon tea at Corrin Court. You’ll have a chance to see a sample of the range of clothes we sell, support our work and maybe pick up a bargain or two!

‘I’d also like to say a huge thank you to Conister Bank which is kindly supporting our fashion show.’

Volunteers will be modelling during The VIP Store Fashion Show, but if you fancy taking to the catwalk as well Kerry would love to hear from you.
